Assignment #5: Getting ready for our presentation
We're at the end of the quarter and we have to get ready for Thursday's project presentation. These are the things that need to be completed so the presentation can be set up:
1. Complete your SketchUp Drawing showing the changes you would make along Broadway or at the corner of Golden Valley Road and Penn Avenue. You can use the basemap provided (search the Google Model Warehouse for "PYC")
2. Go to your network drive and create a new folder. Name this folder your full name - for example, if your name is Joan Smith, the folder should be named "joansmith"
3. Place in this folder the following files:
- The SketchUp file for your final drawing
- Two photos of your model (using the File > Export > 2D Graphic) - these should be the views that most strongly communicate what your model is about
- One Google Earth map showing the location of your changes, or another map you have prepared previously
4. Add one of the photos of your model to the website by creating a new post on the website, and also answer the following question on the same post:
What do you think of this class and project?
Some questions that can help you answer this (you can answer all or some of them):
- What did you like best?
- What do you think could have been done better?
- What did you learn?
- What would you tell your friends about it?
And that is all. Thank you for a great class, it has been great fun having the chance to meet you and work with you. See you tomorrow,
Antonio

Below are some photos that I took today during our walk along Broadway Avenue.
Today's assignment has three parts:
1) Take a look at the slideshows below,
2) Write (as a comment to this post) what comes to mind from your experience of the walk and these photos, and
3) If you took photos of the walk, upload them as a new post on the website.

Assignment 3: Complete by Monday March 23
Last week we talked about what we liked about North Minneapolis. For this assignment, we'll answer questions about what we might like to make better.
So the questions to answer are "What would you change or improve?" and "How would you do it?"
You can answer by writing a comment to this post, or by making a new post showing what some of your changes might look like (for example, a map showing where some things you would fix are, or where you would build something new, or a photo or an animation of a building you might make).
Some thoughts that might be helpful in answering the questions and designing your improvements:

- What things need fixing? (you can answer by writing a comment here)

- Where are those things you would fix? (you can make a new post with a picture of a Google Earth map showing those places)
- What would a change look like? (you can take a picture or a post a movie of a SketchUp model showing the change you would build)

Assignment #1: Monday March 9, 2009
Two things to do for today's assignment:
1) Please take a picture of your sketchup model (In Sketchup, go to "File", then "Export", then "2D Graphic") and upload it to the website by creating a "New Post" and using the "add image" button.
2) Look at the images below (which we talked about a couple of weeks ago) and answer the question "What does this make you think of" by clicking on the "Comment" link on this post.

Some questions (you don't have to answer all of these, but they can help you answer the main question):

- What's the story behind these pictures?
- Is it the same place? How can it be the same place?
- Which picture came first?
- What happened to the people who were living in there first?
- Where might you know more people?
- Where could you more easily find a place to get groceries, or make friends?
- Where would there be more things to do?
